An Evening with Pinterest: a Creator Connect Event

The “Pinterest Princess.” That’s what my friend commented under my post from a Pinterest event I attended a few days ago. The name is very fitting, especially since this is now my second Pinterest event I’ve attended. Also, if you know me, then you know I live and breathe on that app.

The Summer Aura Soiree was an exclusive, invite-only event for Pinterest creators, held in New York City, featuring networking, insightful informational sessions, and interactive activities. Since this was a themed event, I spent days on Pinterest searching for “Summer Aura Soiree” outfits. I wanted my look to embody how I felt: vibrant. I nervously planned everything to the t: outfit, content, my stay, and how I was getting there. I was excited, but also nervous. Not as nervous as I was during the Pinterest and L’Oreal panel discussion, but this was also my first content creator event of the year, so the nerves were still there.

As I walked into the space, my nerves disappeared. Especially after Pinterest’s lead for content and community growth gave me a warm welcome and congratulations (I’ll fill you guys in later). The space was very intimate, which I loved, and matched the theme perfectly: fake butterflies flying over the hors d’oeuvres, tequila sunrises in champagne glasses, and bouquets of flowers placed around the tables. It was like I walked into a flower garden. The best part about it was that everyone was off networking and creating content, either alone or with someone they had just met. The atmosphere felt warm and welcoming.

The first part of the night was an educational session where we discussed best practices on Pinterest: how to pin, SEO strategies, and how to streamline your content, followed by a chat with Pinterest’s Creator Ambassador, Jessica Morrobel (@travelingwithjessica). The second half of the event was spent on the rooftop for our hands-on activity: creating aura bouquets. We journaled about our summer intentions and then did aura mapping based on our journal responses. Journaling always leaves me feeling refreshed, and the aura mapping was the icing on the cake. I felt good.

The best part of the event was the creators I met there. Some of us traveled via car, train, or plane to be there. To spend the day with Pinterest and other creators. It was so good to see. It was even better to see a room filled with other Black creators. I loved every bit of it, and I’m looking forward to many more creator events.
